living well workshops

Join a healthy lifestyle workshop today and learn to manage your chronic disease. Participants learn how to manage their diseases and understand the impact that their health has on various aspects of their lives. We offer workshops for chronic disease self-management, diabetes self-management, and chronic pain self-management.

These workshops are based on The Chronic Disease Self-Management Programs and are called Living Well in Oregon.
The programs are delivered once a week for 2 ½ hours, over 6 weeks. The workshops are facilitated by a pair of peer leaders with health problems of their own. The workshops are delivered in community settings and is free and includes a book about chronic conditions.

These Workshops will help you to:
    • Handle stress and relax
    • Deal with depression
    • Solve problems and meet personal goals
    • Talk to your Doctor and family effectively about you health
    • Eat well
    • Control your pain
    • Start an exercise program
    • Manage medications
    • Fight fatigue and frustration
    • Make choices about you future
Chronic Disease Self Management
This workshop can help people with chronic diseases such as arthritis, HIV/AIDS, high blood pressure, depression, anxiety, heart disease, COPD and multiple sclerosis, etc. The classes will focus on:
  • techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation;
  • appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance;
  • appropriate use of medications;
  • communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals;
  • nutrition;
  • decision making; and
  • how to evaluate new treatments
Diabetes Self Management
This workshop is for people with Type 2 Diabetes. The classes will focus on:
  • techniques to deal with the symptoms of diabetes, fatigue, pain, hyper/hypoglycemia, stress, and emotional problems such as depression, anger, fear and frustration;
  • appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength and endurance;
  • healthy eating;
  • appropriate use of medication; and
  • working more effectively with health care providers.
Chronic Pain Self Management
This workshop can help people with chronic pain such as chronic musculo-skeletal pain, fibromyalgia, whiplash injuries, chronic regional pain syndromes, repetitive strain injury, and chronic pelvic pain. The classes will focus on:
  • techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, isolation, and poor sleep;
  • appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance;
  • appropriate use of medications;
  • communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals;
  • nutrition;
  • pacing activity and rest; and
  • how to evaluate new treatments.
